Hi,

Recently i was able to add the 2€ Netherlands 2000 Monometal nickel to my collection.

The coins is made at the Mint of Birmingham and were trials for the Dutch Mint and are made of nickel.
After the Mint of Birmingham closed the were stolen at a burglary.

As far as i know there are about 100 pieces.

I am very happy that i could add this very special coin.

Best regards,
Jan

More about this coin :

This coin illustrated was struck by the Birmingham Mint of the United Kingdom specifically to test the edge lettering for the Dutch 2 EURO bi-metalic coin which went into circulation on the 1st January 2002. The coin is struck on a nickel planchet which has the same diameter, weight & thickness as the current 2 €URO coin but is not bi-metalic. The Birmingham Mint reported the striking of 115 pieces in total and as with the circulation coins, carries the Dutch mintmark and Mint master's mark below the portrait and legend along with the year of "2000".

I think , I can not add here the link to this information.
I have seen the auction on the ebay. The same coin been sold for 2310E at 16 November 2009.
How much have you paid for it ?

Luit, are we able to identify the coin from robbery ? I think Birmingham Mint has had only samples , the rest has been sent to Dutch years before.

The same month 2009 I have found the auction :
Daten
- 8,7 g schwer
- Münze wird nicht durch einen Magneten angezogen
- Randaufschrift: EINIGKEIT UND RECHT UND FREIHEIT
- von 2002
- Buchstabe J

Sold for 1111E . It was a coin from circulation.
I have never heard about German coin like it. I think , it was fake. True monometal German coin has value 2x or more the Dutch one.
