Valuable 2€ CC's ?

Post by kariky »

Hi colleagues,

Have you ever really thought the value of 2€ coins? I've been wondering why new 2€ CC's of some certain
countries are said to be very valuable immediately when released despite the fact coins are issued on nominal
value 2€? So is there really some kind of a bunch of greed peoples buying a lot of cheap coins selling soon
with large marginal ? Or how can the price be immediately higher like on the worst new case Malta 2011...

Probably 2€ cc's of big countries with huge minting quantities deliveried through banks (like Germany) will
remain without extra value, but smaller mintages are one by one priced differently, maybe even with lower
mintages. That really won't do any good for our euroswapper community if every 2€ cc of every country will
soon have different selling value  And not even mention SM, Vatican or Monaco, those have always
had ugly prices...

Well to be honest, my original purpose was only just to ask which 2€ cc's are counted more valuable than
the nominal value (like Slovenia ToR, Finland 2004) if i happen to have other valuable cc's in my collection

- Slovenia ToR mintage 400 000
- Finland 2004 mintage 1000 000, normally not available in full rolls, most of coins circulated

What else and why, please ?

hi kariky
i think you reply by you own in your question. As far i know, in some countries (luxemburg, ireland, belgium, france, malta, italy) is almost impossible to get 2 euro cc rolls from the banks. They distribute the rolls to dealers and to wholesellers. The coin mintage is the main reason the price going high in short time.
Except the countries you refer and Monaco, Vatican, San Marino other 2 euro cc coins with high value are :

Belgium (2005, 2006)
Germany (2006)
All Luxemburg (2004-2012)
Netherland (2011)
Malta (2011)

I had similar conversation with coin dealer in Ljubljana.
He claimed, that prices of some coins are so high because of the marketing methods of issuing states. Well, that is correct. He admitted, that if multiple brokers are involved (he is one of them), then price is higher and also his profit :).
He also said, that it is less atractive for him selling coins from "more remote" countries, because he must pay more for shipping costs (he did mention Malta here) which results in higher final price and also in bigger disinterest of buyers.

I would not have problems with higher costs, if the current issues of my country's coins would be smaller. But they are not. I believe, that mintages of CC should be proportional to population of country, or at least same for all countries. But they are not. And it is not getting any better - more and more coins will issue with price, higher than nominal, which could result in disinterest of collectors to collect them. Why should I collect 2€ CC, if I must pay 3-4x higher price for every second coin, which will issue...

And Andora. As far as I know, they are planning to get get € in 2013. Andora is microstate and I think, prices of ther coins will be similar to SM..Higer than nominal prices of course..

P.S. In Italy you can get coins in rolls at their banks, but not in all of them. They have regional centers for selling numismatic values. Problem with Bank of Italy is, that they have available UNC coins for sale 2 or 3 months after date of issue :).

Hello,
A small correction, in Belgium, everyone can have rolls, it is necessary to go to the national bank (Bruxelle, Liege or Antwerp) and to have its identity card. You can have roll as much than you want.
In France, it is odd, I have a contact and it goes me to have 8 rolls 2€CCTYE… (53€ rolls ? )

For the most expensive parts, not to forget the 2€CC Portugal 2011

A part most expensive is the 2€CC Germany 2006 J.
This year, much of parts will be expensive:
Portugal: 2€CC TYE, 2€CC
Luxembourg: 2€CC TYE
all emitted with 500.000

For the Belgians 2005 and 2006, strange, exit with 5.000.000 EX ???
Not much of collectors in 2004,05 and 06 ? Many circulated, but the UNC are rare.

The 2€CC Luxembourg are only on sale with the BCL and by rolls (57€ + postal charges) most expensive is the 2010.

Best regards, Indy

In malta it costs 80 euro to buy 1 roll of 25 coins; and only 2 rolls could be bought by the maltese people.
