About keeping Vatican coincards

Post by vietnampenpal »

Hello,

I just received some Vatican 50 cent coincards. I have found that they have plastic (?) layer covering both faces (to protect them during delivering?).

Now I wonder if we should keep the layer or remove it? Is it harmful for the coincard if we keep it for a long time?

By the way, where can I find exact mintage quantity (and images if possible) of these coincards from 2010 onward? On Euro Auflagen listing only 2 types for 2012 while I have found the 3rd.

Regards,
Viet Hung

Hi Viet Hung,

Personally, I remove the plastic. I think it's purpose is the same as the plastic foil on for example the screens of mobile phones: to protect it during transport etc., but it's not meant to stay on. But on the other hand, I can't imagine it's harmful for the coincard. It just looks less nice to me. ;)

And what do you mean with a third coincard from the Vatican in 2012. As far as I know, there's only one coincard and 1 coin and stamp card for 2012. Could you post a photo of this coincard you mean? I can't find it on the website of the UFN either. http://www.vaticanstate.va/EN/Services/ ... --2012.htm

Best regards,

Bernard

Hi Bernard,

Yes I also know that the plastic is for protecting the coincard. And removing it will make the coincard look much nicer. Just because I haven't got a good box for storing them yet that I want to know if it's harmful or not to keep the plastic. So I think I will keep it for some time.

It's this coincard that I just wonder if it's the 3rd one of the year because it is with "No 3" on its bottom right.

It's the 3rd coin card (without stamp).
The 1st was in 2010
The 2nd in 2011 and this is the 3rd.

You can by the way find pictures and mintage details of the coincards on the website of the UFN (link in my previous posting).

Thanks Vangelis and Bernard. Yes it's clear with me now.

So we have: Coincard to be counted from 2010 for No 1, Stamp&Coin Card counted from 2011 for No 1. And on the site, we should find info for the latter on Stamp Section.

I completely agree with Bernard.

Of course if I get more than 1 coincard for swap or sale, I remove the plastic only from my coincard. I swap and sell always with the plastic, letting the choice to the buyer/swapper.
