Can somebody explain to me what means the sentence" notify me upon replies by default" in the "profile"?

I ask this question as I still not have e-mail notification of incoming messages.
I had pointed NO for this possibility. Maybe it is the reason why. Now I have pointed YES....
Can someone send me a pm to see if it works ?
