I received a letter from the Vatican today informing me that I had been selected for the opportunity to buy the 2012 proof set with the 50 euro gold coin. However, the order form reflected the proof set with the silver coin. Has anyone else received such a letter? Does anyone plan to purchase this set with the gold coin?

As far as I can see everybody gets that letter.
Only a few get the set already mentioned on the orderform itself.
Since last years only 300 sets proof with gold were issued and now 2000 are issued, I think they try to get some more customers for the gold set and give all current customers a chance.
When I look at the price, I think it is far too expensive for the gold in it and 2000 is not rare enough to get it a high collector value, but on the other hand, it is the first proof set wit a gold COIN, so there might be surprises....

thank you for your insight. I agree, the asking price carries a very high premium. That plus the high quantity makes one want to think twice.
